“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes” (Psalm 37:7).
Having just come off an arduous sea duty with multiple deployments and 4 kids in the house, dad needs some time with mom and God.
Going to White Sulphur Springs for a weeklong summer family week sounded like a great idea. I needed to reflect on Ps 37:7, having just spent 6 months at sea with a bunch sinners/sailors!
As always the atmosphere carries the peace of God and the fellowship is a warm loving family environment. However, all of the sessions, both for adults and children, left little time for my wife and I to spend time together, little time for me to spend in depth time with God, and not quite as much family time as I had hoped.
So, I took my wife by the hand and up the trail we went, praying and talking, entering into a deep dialogue of what God was doing in our lives. We spent a lot of time alone in the room doing a lot of Listening to the Holy Spirit, Discussing, and Planning. I felt a little guilty for playing hookey with my wife, but it was needed.
Now, both Retreat Centers have made modification to allow for this type of R&R with God and one another. This is one of the essential purposes for OCF retreat centers.
