Day 32

We look to the Lord to truly do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine

The following is an excerpt from “Do Not Grow Weary in Prayer and Fasting,” written faithfully each week for nearly 10 years by Jerry Hale, Spiritual Emphasis Committee Chair for the Growing and Building Campaign.

 

This is the time of the year in the U.S. when the airwaves are saturated with back-to-school sales, especially Varsity Backpacks (Remember when only Boy Scouts had packs?). Those ads tend to depress most school-age children; who wants summer to end?
This is year 10 for me at the private military school where I work. Ten years and 10 different schedules. That, too, could be depressing, but thankfully there is an overarching yearly rhythm to things at school that I can count on to serve as a comforting consistency to daily life.

 

Each year I can count on early August to bring fresh teaching on leadership (both spiritual and secular) with the Willow Creek Leadership Summit. Actually, leadership stands on its own—it’s just a question of whether you lead in your own strength or the Lord’s strength. This year’s Summit was particularly helpful to me, not only because of the solid content presented, but also the fact that our school president attended with me. Two days with the boss discussing faith and leadership was a real treat for me.

 

The final session of the Summit was led by Craig Groeschel, Founder and Senior Pastor, LifeChurch.tv. Using Ephesians 3:20-21 as his text, he encouraged the audience to expand our leadership capacity by choosing one of five areas to work to improve upon in the coming year

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21).

 

Groeschel believes that there is way more inside us than we can imagine. I believe that too, and look forward to another year of ministry, trusting the Lord to build into me more confidence when I am up front in a formal church setting.

We look to the Lord to truly do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, asking the Lord’s special blessing to send more and more people to join us in praying and giving and seeing the Growing and Building Campaign to completion at Spring Canyon!
